In the vast expanse of the cosmos, a rogue planet was violently ejected from its home star system when the star went supernova. Drifting through the inky blackness for eons, it eventually encountered a new solar system and was captured by the gravitational pull of its sun. In a cataclysmic collision, the nomadic world smashed into the planet Tiamat, shattering it into two halves and scattering the debris into what became known as the "Hammered Bracelet" - a ring of rocky remnants orbiting the star.

The rogue planet, now trapped in an elongated 3,600-year orbit, was dubbed Nibiru by the human-like civilization that arose upon its surface over billions of years of evolution. As their technology advanced, the Nibirians unwittingly weakened Nibiru's atmospheric radiation shielding, causing extreme seasonal shifts that threatened their very existence. Their survival hinged on dispersing a fine gold dust to reseal the breach, but Nibiru lacked sufficient gold reserves.

Under King Alalu's reign, the desperate Nibirians turned to the Hammered Bracelet, sending ships to mine its asteroids and icy planetoids for gold. When those missions failed, Alalu resorted to detonating Nibiru's volcanoes to inject gases into the atmosphere - a temporary fix. In the ensuing power struggle, Alalu's cupbearer Anu wrestled the throne away and banished his predecessor.

Escaping in a celestial ship, the deposed Alalu discovered a water-rich planet teeming with gold - Tiamat's other half, which he renamed Earth. With Anu's blessing, Anu's sons Enki and Enlil led expeditions of Nibirians, now called the Anunnaki, to harvest Earth's gold and ship it back to Nibiru to reseal the atmosphere.

As mining operations ramped up in the Abzu region, Enki made the startling realization that Earth itself was a living entity suffering from their extractive methods. He established new techniques to minimize the harm, but found they only further damaged Earth's essence. Meanwhile, disgruntled Anunnaki miners and station workers on Mars (Lahmu) protested the grueling conditions, demanding respite on Earth.

Enki's solution was an ambitious genetic experiment to create a new race of primitive workers by blending Anunnaki DNA with that of Earthly creatures. Though the first batches were flawed, he and his half-sister Ninhursag eventually produced fertile human-hybrids to toil as servants to their Anunnaki overlords. When Enki fathered two children, Adapa and Titi, with an Earthling woman, their superior intelligence and beauty heralded the dawn of modern humans.
